It is a pretty great article. And I'm not even an American, but some things just reach further than that.

In my country, during the dictatorship, we kept being told to keep our heads down, to resign to our luck, to be glad that we were "poor but honest", to not put ourselves forward. 33 years after the revolution, I still don't think we've completely recovered from it.

It's strange to see someone from the US - from one of the places so many people fled to, to escape that same dictatorship - say something so similar to what I've been feeling about my own country.
